CONTRIBUTION OF AFROTURK AGRO TV TO AFRICAN AND TURKISH AGRICULTURE
Turkiye's recent support for agriculture and efforts to raise farmer awareness have increased both productivity and quality in agriculture. Planting the right crops and using quality agricultural techniques have played a significant role in the development of agriculture and livestock in Turkiye. The contribution of agricultural television channels to proper farming practices is undoubtedly significant.
In recent years, agricultural television channels established in Turkiye have raised awareness among farmers and pioneered the application of new agricultural techniques. In response to demand for modern agricultural techniques, many factories have been established in Turkiye, ranging from agricultural machinery to seed production, and have become major players in agriculture
With our agricultural channel AFROTURK AGRO TV targeting the African continent, our goal is to create new markets for agricultural enterprises in Turkiye and guide African agriculture. Television is a major perception tool in Africa. Due to the uninformed use of existing agricultural lands, productivity is not optimized. Through AFROTURK AGRO TV, we will teach agriculture and productivity to Africa, creating new markets for our country.
Our promotional films on the channel will help establish our agricultural strength in the continent, greatly contributing to agricultural firms finding new markets.
WHY A TURKISH AGRICULTURAL CHANNEL IN AFRICA
Approximately 30% of the world's livestock is found in Africa. Ethiopia, with 1.25 billion animals, ranks fifth in terms of large livestock numbers after Brazil, India, China, and the USA. Among the top 100 countries in the world livestock ranking, 32 are African countries, with Turkiye ranked 22nd.
A key characteristic that distinguishes Africa from other continents is the emphasis on raw material resources. The rapidly advancing technological developments also make this necessary. Agricultural products and livestock, closely monitored by relevant sectors, are fundamental to human nutrition. As important as they were in the past, they will increasingly determine solutions to tensions between countries and even continents in the future.
The global market opportunities for live animals and their products are growing rapidly every 5-10 years. Africa's existing knowledge in this area, which is not fully reflected in international data, is being increasingly explored. Institutions such as the FAO, World Bank, and African Development Bank are preparing sector reports for the next 20 to 30 years.
Livestock, especially in many countries in West and East Africa, plays a central role. Millions of families earn their livelihoods from activities in this sector. In West Africa alone, 80 million people depend on livestock for their livelihoods.
Approximately 17% of the world's sheep and 31% of goats live on this continent. When considering all large and small livestock, about 30% of the world's livestock is raised in Africa. It is estimated that 1.25 billion large and small animals are distributed across various countries on the continent.
According to FAO data, the total arable land in the world is 1.396 billion hectares, while Africa's arable land is 226 million hectares. Africa holds 16% of the world's arable land. The agricultural sector plays a significant role in Africa, accounting for 32% of Africa's GDP and 65% of its employment.
Idle agricultural lands, low crop yields, and increased investment interests due to the 2007 food crisis are among the expectations for development in Africa. Agriculture in Africa is changing, and the increasing number of young people entering the sector is accelerating this change. African leaders view agriculture as a source of growth, a tool for improving food security, and a guide for effectively utilizing the continent's valuable natural resources.
Based on these data, AFROTURK AGRO TV aims to merge Turkiye's agricultural technology with Africa's agricultural potential. Many of our companies are currently producing and establishing new facilities in Africa, demonstrating the significant potential of the Turkiye-Africa agricultural integration.
